Friday October 29, 2010 - The View From Section EE

Ok, I lied. No pictures yet. We are having major issues with our computer. We are waiting on word to see if our last back up of January 2010 will be necessary. That would be a lot of information/pictures we could lose. Just hoping one of my old co-workers can work some magic!

Last week was a blast with my sister and her husband. Once we get our computer back I will post some pictures. Its not very easy doing this from a cell phone.

Now to football, thankfully my sisters husband loves sports and football. It was a football day all last week and to top it off, we were able to watch Iowa State shock Texas in Texas. I never imagined I would see that happen this season! I thought for sure we would be witnessing true Iowa State heartbreak, but the football gods were on their side for once. Or I need to start predicting huge blowouts, see Texas Tech and Texas predictions.

This week, I could pick a prediction and be right. Kansas looks awful, and they are playing the third string quarterback. Then again, anyone to predict an ISU team to win by more that 14 could be a fool, but I'm going to do it!

My prediction:

Iowa State - 42
Kansas - 10

Friday October 21, 2010 - The View From Section EE

When we looked at the ISU football schedule, this three week stretch had the makings of some ugly games. The weekend in Norman proved to be that.

This week has been a fun week to forget about blow out football games. My sister Teresa and her husband Juan Luis came to Omaha for a little vacation, if you can call Omaha a vacation destination. Kristy decided to start the vacation by not feeling well, so after a day of recovering, we took them out for a fun time in Omaha. After a trip to the Old Market, we went to the casino. This is where it gets good. Kristy is the last person in line at Security. They refused her entry, not because she had a few beverages before hand, but her license was 5 months expired! We, or I, was hoping she would have to retest and even take the driving test at the DMV! It was her lucky day and after a 45 minute wait, no test and she can finally drive again. Thankfully, Council Bluffs has three casinos and another one allowed us entry without checking her ID.

Its been a fun week so far and Brianna got a new pair of pink cowboy boots from her aunt and uncle. She absolutely loves them. Its going to be a difficult time to get thos off her!

Now its prohection time:

This weekend ISU gets the opportunity to visit Austin, TX. Texas won a big game at Nebraska (It was an awesome win to quiet those damn Husker fans down). The spread is close to 30 and after last week, I can see it reaching that or worse.

Texas: 42

Iowa State: 7

Note: Pictures will be added next week. I have no idea how to add pictures while writing this on my phone.

Wednesday October 13, 2010 - The View From Section EE

This part will be short, last weeks ISU game against Utah was only good for the first quarter. It turned really hairy in a hurry. Most people left at halftime and I had enough at the start of the fourth quarter. The quote of the night would be Kristy's Uncle Randy. With one minute and thirty seconds left in the first half, ISU had the ball. He said "In this short amount of time, ISU will punt the ball and Utah will score." Sure enough, ISU punted in three plays and Utah ran it all the way to the goal line with one second left. The field goal was a piece of cake.

This Utah team is good, probably better than any other team I have seen in person, thats not a ton of games either. My hope is they run the table and make a BCS Bowl Game and if God is against me, Nebraska will also make a BCS Bowl. Then the Husker fans will be all delusional about being in a BCS game and Utah rips right through them. They looked that good to me.

Ok, enough football. We took Emily in for her four month check up. Brianna was so excited, just so she could watch her get all her shots. This child will be something else. She already lives to see her little sister in pain. When Bri is 15 and Emily is 11, things will be very interested in our household.

Emily did good with her shots. She became crabby, but nothing new. Kind of kidding, she tends to be crabby around me. That could just be me. I am seriously looking into getting her a crab costume for Halloween. Or I could dress her as a Deadliest Catch crab boat.

Now back to Emily's check up day. It was also the day the Doctor said we could go ahead and try some cereal. She absolutely loves the stuff. After the first few bites falling out of her mouth, she has learned to eat that stuff up in a hurry. Below are a couple pictures. One is Brianna actually being a good sister and not laughing at her pain.
As for the monster known as Bri, she's still driving me crazy. She is pretty funny at school. We picked her up today and as she got up and walked to the door, she is waving and telling a bunch of the kids good bye, and they are waving at her. I have no idea where she gets her personality. She wont tell us much about what goes on at school, but we found a way for her to tell us. We play school with her and make her be the teacher. Now we know a little bit of what she is doing three days a week.

Now back to some football, Iowa State goes to Oklahoma. Vegas has ISU pegged as 24 point underdogs. Oklahoma has lost against the spread in every game this year when they were the big favorite. There is no way I can predict an ISU win, but I think they can cover the spread. I just wish Oklahoma would actually put the 24 points on the ISU scoreboard as they kick off.

The Prediction:
35

24

Thursday October 7, 2010 - The View From Section EE

So last week's game was nothing like most of the fans inside the stadium expected. The Iowa State offense finally decided to show up five weeks after the season started. I have no complaints being off on last weeks prediction. Since its so hard to believe an Iowa State team can score 52 points in one game, not just a season, here is the scoreboard.

This week we decided to tailgate a little different, we brought the kids along. Once again the weather decides to be a pain in our butts. It was dry and sunny, but windy and cold, but a million times better than last week. We are having the worst of luck at games so far this year. Anyway, one of the game day experiences ISU has set up is a play area next to the stadium. It is made up of bounce houses, face painting, and mini golf. Bri loved this area, as she always does at any bounce house. The following picture may paint a bad picture for the future. She is inside one of the bounce houses but it looks like she is in jail. Her attitude lately, this could be sing of things to come.

We were able to get a decent family picture while tailgating. Too bad Brianna decides to have a mean scowl on her face. Once again, it is a fitting picture for her, so it makes sense.

We signed Brianna up for the Lil Cyclone Club this year we had an opportunity to go down on the field before the game as the team enters the field. The rules simply state the Lil Cyclone Club member and ONE parent. Not too many parents followed those rules. While waiting in line to get to the field, parents were complaining to an Officer working the gate to the field because they wanted to go stand on the field. The parents could not understand that there was a certain time when we were all allowed to go on the field. Once again, when these kids become delinquents in their teens, all can all blame their parents. Surprisingly, Brianna did really well on the field (except for seeing Cy) and during the game. Here is a picture of us standing on the field.

As for this weeks game, a top 10 ranked Utah game. A week ago, I thought ISU would be slaughtered by Texas Tech and even Utah this week. Utah has not played any schools yet this year that are any good, so I think they may be a chance. If the offense shows up like it did last week, I can see them pulling off the win. Therefore, I am going to go out on the limb and predict the upset. ISU is due to beat a Top 10 team.

My prediction:

38
